Planning a new sod lawn
Sod goes down fast and dies slowly if it is left on the pallet, so get the order right and have the ground ready before it arrives.
- Measure the lawn. Split odd shapes into rectangles, circles and triangles and subtract beds and patios.
- Work out how much sod. Add 5 to 15% for cuts, then round up to whole pallets. Use the sod calculator.
- Prepare the soil. Many lawns need a few inches of loosened or added topsoil. Estimate it with the soil calculator.
- Schedule delivery. Lay the sod the same day or within a day or two of delivery.
Once the lawn is in, feed it with the lawn fertilizer calculator. Seeding instead of laying sod? The grass seed calculator works out the pounds and bags for a new lawn or overseeding.
